Catechesis:
For the last several months, you have been learning about the different types of prayer.
This month you will learn about prayers of praise. Why do we need to praise God? Well, when we are in a relationship with someone, it is nice to give them praise sometimes. It is also nice to hear praise from those we love and respect. Telling God how awesome he is is not different. God wants to hear our praise.
Prayers of praise is acknowledging greatness and goodness. God is a loving Father who delights in giving to us, his children, but when we approach God in prayer, we should approach God with praise for all the gifts he’s given us and tell him how much we love him. Even God deserves praise sometimes (all of the time.)
We can praise God in many ways. We can praise God by telling God how great he is and why we think he’s great. We can praise God by singing songs of praise---which we do at Mass when we sing the Gloria. We can praise God through art. Whatever, and however, you feel comfortable in praising God do it.
As a family brainstorm the different attributes of God and write them down.
Once you have several attributes listed try to find Scripture passages that relate to those attributes.
