January 2026 In Home

Theme: When we feel powerless, we can trust in Jesus

*You'll need slips of paper for this In Home lesson

Opening Prayer:  Gather a family around your kitchen table or the space that you have to complete your In Home. Choose a person to lead the prayer. Invite the leader to beging the prayer with the Sign of the Cross +

Prayer Leader: Jesus, sometimes we feel small, scared, or unsure of what to do.

Thank You for being with us even when we feel powerless.

Help us trust You, lean on You, and remember that You are always working for our good.

We place our families, worries, and hopes into Your loving hands.

All: Amen.

Lesson Leader:  Tell your family that life often puts us in situations where we feel afraid, weak, or unable to fix things, or powerless. Scripture reminds us that Jesus meets us in our powerlessness and invites us to trust Him completely.

Read 2 Corinthians 12:9.  After reading discuss the following question:

What does this passage tell us about Jesus’ grace? (Allow each family member to answer.)

Read: Mark 4:35–41

Family Leader:  Point out that everyone feels powerless sometimes—kids, teens, parents, and grandparents. The disciples felt powerless during the storm, but Jesus was still in the boat. Trusting Jesus doesn’t mean our problems disappear right away—it means we’re not alone. Jesus invites us to bring Him our fears, struggles, and weaknesses.

Discuss as a family: When have you felt scared or unable to fix something? (Allow time for answers from each family member). What do you think it means to trust Jesus in those moments when you feel powerless? (Allow time for each family member to answer.)

Choose and age appropriate video to watch:

After watching the video discuss as a family the following questions:

·      What are some things middle schoolers worry about?

·      Why is it hard to trust when we feel out of control?

·      How can prayer help when we feel powerless?

Family Leader: Stress to your family that Jesus wants us to turn to Him instead of handling everything alone.

Family Activity: Make sure each family member has a slip of paper. Take your basket/box and label it “Trusting In Jesus”. Each family member writes or draws something they feel powerless about or something they need help with in their life. When each person has written or drawn something, place the papers in the basket as a sign of trust.

After everyone places their papers in the basket, invite the prayer leader to pray the prayer below. Begin with the Sign of the Cross +.

Jesus, we place these worries, fears, and struggles into Your hands.

Help us trust You even when we don’t understand.

We believe You are working in our lives.

All: Amen.
