Theme: When We Wonder, We Can Trust in Jesus
Opening Prayer: Gather as a family in a circle. If possible, light a candle or use a battery operated one. Choose a leader for the prayer. The leader says the following:
Prayer:
Leader: Lord Jesus, when we have questions or doubts, help us remember you are with us.
Families together: When we wonder, Jesus, we trust in You.
Leader: When we are afraid or unsure, teach us to look to You for peace.
Families together: When we wonder, Jesus, we trust in You.
Leader: Be with us tonight as we open our hearts to Your Word.
All: Amen.

Invite family members to close eyes and listen to the words.
Catechesis: Sometimes we face moments when we wonder — when life feels uncertain, confusing, or even scary. Today we’ll learn that in those moments, we can always trust in Jesus, who loves us and leads us.
The dictionary definition is “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.” Trust is a difficult thing to have in other people sometimes. Trust is earned by people doing what they say they will do. As a family discuss the following points:
- Name a person you trust.
- Discuss why you trust that person.
- Name some traits of a trustful person.
It’s easy to trust in someone you can see and feel. But sometimes, trusting in Jesus can be difficult because we cannot see or feel him BUT we know Jesus is always with us.
Invite a family member to read Matthew 14:22-33---Jesus Walks on Water.
After reading, point out that Peter began to sink when he looked at the wind instead of Jesus.
Discuss: What helps us keep our eyes on Jesus when we feel uncertain?

After watching the age appropriate video discuss briefly as a family:
- What part of this story stood out to you?
- When have you felt like Peter — afraid, but wanting to trust?
- How did Jesus respond to Peter’s doubt?
Family Activity: “Faith Float”
Option A: For Families with younger children:
Supplies: Small bowl of water, a coin for each person in the family, a small candle.
Have each person take a coin and name one worry or question they have. Gently drop it in the water while saying, “Jesus, I give this to You. I trust in You.” Then light the candle as a sign that Jesus’ light and love never sink.
Option B: For families with older children
Trust Bridge Challenge: Create a short “trust path” — one family member closes their eyes and is guided verbally by others through a simple obstacle course (or around the room).
Afterwards, discuss the following questions:
- How did it feel to not see where you were going?
- What made you feel safe?
- How does trusting a loved one help us understand trusting Jesus?
Family Discussion:
- When do you find it hardest to trust Jesus?
- How can we help each other remember that Jesus is near?
- What’s one way our family can show trust in Jesus this week?
Read: Proverbs 3:5---Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.”
Closing Prayer & Blessing:
Choose a family member to read the following:
Jesus, You never leave us, even when we doubt or worry.
Help our family keep our eyes fixed on You.
When we wonder, remind us that Your love is strong and steady.
May our hearts say every day, “Jesus, I trust in You.”
All together: Amen.
Family Blessing:
Each parent or guardian may trace a small cross on each family member’s forehead while saying: “Jesus, help you to trust in His love.”
