The Book of Gospels

The Saint John’s Bible Edition

This past Easter Triduum 2018, we began using a new Book of the Gospels as part of our liturgy.  A few notes about the symbolism of this beautiful edition.  The color red on the cover is associated with blood or the life force.  The gold – a precious metal symbolic of the divine presence and precious nature of the word contained within.  The purple – symbolizes royalty – representative of Christ the King.  The Blue is meant to represent the sacramental life initiated by the ministry of Jesus, especially baptism.  The cross is the focal point, central to our salvation.  Contained within is some of the hand-illuminated artwork from the St. John’s Bible.

We wish to thank the Fuchs Family who provided the parish with this beautiful Gospel Book in loving memory of Audrey Fuchs.
