Diocese of Green Bay to Celebrate 150th Jubilee in 2018

Diocese of Green Bay to celebrate 150th Jubilee in 2018
The Diocese of Green Bay is excited to celebrate its 150th Jubilee Year in 2018, celebrating the past and looking to the future. March 3, 2018, marks 150 years that Catholics have officially been praising God and serving others as the Diocese of Green Bay.
“For 150 years, the Catholic Church has taken root in northeastern Wisconsin. Just think of all the disciples of the Lord Jesus who have been nourished by the Good News in this beautiful diocese!” said Bishop David L. Ricken, twelfth bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay. “As Disciples on the Way, we have so much to be grateful for. Let us rejoice and celebrate these 150 years united in God’s Church, in this wonderful place we all call home.”

The newly restored St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay will host 12 liturgical celebrations throughout the jubilee year. These celebrations will focus on various groups of the faithful; some of whom have not typically been acknowledged during a special liturgy. Due to limited seating, complimentary tickets are required and available at www.gbdioc.org/jubilee2018. Each liturgy will be followed by a special reception and gift for all participants.

A special 150th Jubilee film is being created which will tell the story of our Catholic presence in northeastern Wisconsin. This film is being produced by WFRV Channel 5, in conjunction with the diocesan Communications Department. Inspiring and educational, the film will highlight our many efforts to educate, heal, evangelize, and minister through the witness and work of individuals and families, parishes and schools, and other diocesan-affiliated organizations. More information on screenings and access to this film will be forthcoming.

150th Jubilee book has also been produced which relates the rich history of our diocese along with the backgrounds of individual parishes. Distribution has been arranged throughout the diocese this fall with anticipation that these beautiful books will be treasured for years to come. If your parish or organization needs additional books, contact us at comm@gbdioc.org, and we will connect you with another parish that has extra copies available.

150th Jubilee prayer will be distributed for parishes to pray together during the Lent and Easter Seasons, surrounding the March 3, 2018, anniversary date. The prayer cards will be bilingual, with both English and Spanish translations.

150th Jubilee posters are available in both English and Spanish. Please contact the Office of Divine Worship at worship@gbdioc.org to obtain copies.

And finally, a special time capsule will be assembled during the coming Jubilee year. It will be comprised of small articles from each of the parishes and other Catholic institutions throughout the diocese. This time capsule, which will be closed after the Chrism Mass on March 27th, 2018, will remain sealed until our bicentennial year in 2068.
